When we were introduced into Epic books this week I was so excited to have a resource as part of my toolkit for bringing e-books into the classroom. What I am realizing is so great about Epic is how inclusive it is for all students. With the visual reading, audio book, or read to me options, it allows for all students even with a variety of sensory disorders to be involved. Another neat thing I am noticing is how the books are categorized. This makes it easy to locate a book that is on the topic of the students interest. I do foresee some potential barriers to the success of this program such as access to the website, parental help after school, and the time to obtain access online depending on the age group.

I tried to make a screen share video of this website. I found there were quite a few issues I ran into:

  1. I was not very familiar with the website myself so walking an audience through it by screen-share was intimidating as I did not feel confident about what I was explaining.
  2. Technological issues in downloading the video. I ended up being required to purchase more storage on my google drive account to allow the video to download.
  3. Once I was able to download the video after all the troubleshooting I still could not get the video to upload into iMovie.
  4. Editing the video through screen-share online was difficult to cut the video, causing it to be choppy in areas. So please bear with me!

I will absolutely keep Epic books as a tool in my toolbox for practicums and as a future teacher. I think students will find it very engaging and fun to read and do so while utilizing technology.
