Hello, welcome to my blog! My name is Chelsea Blake and I am currently a year four Bachelor of Education student in the East Kootenay Teacher Education Program (EKTEP).

Prior to entering the teaching program, I had the opportunity to work with groups of students aged 5-13 at the Kootenay Dance Academy. I grew up with a passion for dance, so returning to this passion from a teaching perspective helped validate how much I enjoy working with children. Before I decided to go back to school for teaching, I received my diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nursing helped me realize how much I love working with pediatrics; the part I enjoyed most was when I engaged in patient education. I will always bring the nurturing, caring nurse part of me into all that I do as a teacher. I am so grateful for this second chance to do exactly what I now realize I love the most; educate, support, and inspire children to be the best versions of themselves.

What Will You Find In My Blog?

In my blog, I have included included the following topics:

  1. Educational Technology: This includes weekly reflections of my technology course which focus on the takeaways I received to incorporate technology into the classroom. I also created a free inquiry project based on the positive impact of animals on well-being.
  2. Literacy: I have completed a literacy and reading course where I have compiled resources I have learned from teacher’s and Instructors in the UVIC program.
  3. Science: I finished a science course where I have extracted resources to bring with me into my teaching career. I hope you also find these resources helpful!
  4. Assessment: I compiled the main points I gained from my assessment course and provided examples of how I have applied my learning to create a report card and assessment strategies.
  5. Numeracy: On this page, I have created both a foundations and resources page. The foundations page are the key takeaways I will base my teaching on and the resources page is a list of tools and ideas to put the foundations into action.
  6. Student Samples: Please see my work in action by viewing the student samples from my practicum. I have student samples of numeracy, literacy, art, and assessment. I will continue to add more as I gain further experience
