Using Different forms of Standard Measurement (Metric System)

1. After spending some time learning how to measure with centimetres, Metres, and Kilomentres, this was my formative assessment to see their understanding of knowing how to choose the most appropriate measurement for different objects.

2. Below was the introductory lesson to measuring with mass (non-standard units).

3. Below, we had the chance to practice using scales to measure the mass of objects with grams!

4. This activity was a hit! In small groups, students used the criteria, while being creative, to create their own chalk animals! Unfortunately, it was raining outside, so instead of chalk, students used markers and a large piece of art paper. Students talked about this activity for weeks!

Below are some photos of the activity in action!

5. To apply our learning about capacity, we went outside and filled balloons with syringes of water! Students had to add how many syringes it took to fill the balloon and how many millilitres of water the syringe held to find the capacity of different-sized balloons. I would highly recommend this activity as the studetns were very engaged.

6. To conclude our math unit on measurement, we played a game of Jeopardy! The categories were measuring length, perimeter, area, capacity, and mass.
